Gauri

some people worship the idol of Gauri. The faces of these Gauri's are made up of clay, wood or metal. The body parts like hands & upper half of the body are made up of cotton cloth & stuffed with cotton or sponge. This body is kept on a stand or on tripod or in the jar full of rice/wheat. One out of two Gauri's are put in a jar full of rice & the other in wheat. After that the features of Gaurir painted. Before invocation the footprints of the Gauri are to be drawn in entire house with rangoli, Kumkum & Haldi(turmeric). The footprints are drawn from the entrance of the house & follows in each room & near some special things like cupboard. Two ladies form the house get dressed up to welcome the Gauris or invocates Gauri form the entrance/main door holding faces in the hands. The faces are moved round in all the rooms in a pompous shown manner & shown the important things to them. The faces are then installed on the body of the Gauris. One Gauri is called as 'Jeshtha' & the other is 'Kanishtha'. A baby made up of cloth is kept in between the Gauris. A coconut is kept in a silver or metal jar covered with kunchi (something like a scarf which covers the head) facing towards Gauris. A roll of betel leaves(Vida), decorative articles are kept in front of Gauris.
The first days offering is curd rice & vegetable of methi leaves with Bhakari(home made flat bread made up of jawar)
The second days offering is sweets(Kheer-puri, Puran poli), sixteen types of vegetables, Sweet rice, dal-rice.
After the immersion of Lord Ganesha Gauris are removed from the place where they were kept.
Some people immerse the Gauris (which have clay faces) along with the ganpati.
Formerly this pooja was done with new clay pots arranging them on each other & filled with grains, dates, dry coconut & yellow thread.
